A new crop of restaurateurs has embraced Glasgow's culinary history while moving the focus onto flavourful, locally sourced foods

The best of breakfasts
"Glasgow offers plenty of options to experience the famous full Scottish breakfast or explore your sweet side with generous plates of pancakes or French toast. Cafezique, an all-day diner in the West End, boasts some of the best breakfasts in the city. Fill up on the Big Breakfast, which is served with Scottish Puddledub bacon and Stornoway black pudding. Also in the West End is Tribeca, a New York-themed eatery serving American-style breakfasts including heaping plates of steaming pancakes and hearty omelettes. In Central Glasgow, Cafe Gandolfini adds a Scottish spin on classic egg dishes. Try the eggs Alba, accompanied by peat-smoked salmon or eggs Hebridean, served with Stornoway black pudding. For a vegan breakfast on a budget, The 13th Note will add a little spice to your morning with their huevos Mexicanos, a tofu twist on the exotic egg dish."
A world of foods
"Casual gourmets can't get enough of Glasgow's laid-back restaurant scene, where plenty of stellar fare can be found at down-to-earth prices. At Hanoi Bike Shop, a spin-off of Glasgow's famous Ubiquitous Chip, experience the buzzy ambience of a Vietnamese streetside stall while sampling steaming bowls of pho and exotic dishes like Bo Nuong La Lot – beef wrapped in betel leaves. Hanoi Bike Shop even has a kid's menu for tots with adventurous palates. For American-inspired eats with Glaswegian flavour, look no further than Meathammer on Sauciehall Street. Many of their towering burgers come drizzled with a Jack Daniels, Tabasco and Worcester sauce reduction while the Murderous Hog is topped with pulled pork and smoked bacon. Confusingly, the Bavarian-style microbrewery and beer hall West is slightly east of central Glasgow, inside the magnificent Templeton Building. Accompany your stein of beer, brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516, with Nürnberger Bratwürstl or the West haddock and chips."
Glasgow's finest
"For a special occassion or an evening of pampered elegance, Brian Maule at Chardon d'Or, where the Scottish larder is transformed into gourmet fare, is the perfect pick. In the mood for seafood? Try Gamba’s crisp-fried red mullet, crab, avocado, and prawn salad or splash out on their Scottish lobster Thermidor. The West End's fine-dining mainstay, The Ubiquitous Chip, has been serving Scottish contemporary cuisine since 1971. In fine weather, sit in the courtyard amid ponds and greenery and dine on roast Pentland partridge breast or the fillet of Scottish Aberdeen Angus beef. Then pop inside to Scotland's smallest bar, the Wee Bar, for an after-dinner dram. After a full foodie day, there’s nothing like a central Glasgow hotel with a comfortable bed to fall into. (And, of course, an in-house breakfast the next morning.)"
