Welcome to the world of ibis

In 1974, the opening of the first ibis hotel in Bordeaux, France, also launched the world’s first standardised economy hotel brand. The goal? To make reliable, high-quality comfort accessible to everyone. Fast forward half a century, and the ibis name is globally renowned, with more than 2,500 properties across six continents. These are divided between three distinct brands.

In the 1970’s, travel was becoming more affordable so Accor created a hotel brand that redefined economy travel for modern travellers. In September 1974, the first ibis hotel opened its doors in Bordeaux. ibis continued its rapid expansion throughout the 1980s and 1990s, reaching significant milestones.

The ibis family of hotels is completed with the addition of ibis budget (formerly Etap Hôtel) and ibis Styles (formerly All Seasons).

The Sweet ​​Bed™ by ibis is launched and rolled out to hotels across all three ibis brands, becoming the first bed entirely designed by a hotel group.

2013

The ibis family becomes the biggest hotel operator in Europe, with a total of 1,277 hotels.
