A cheap hotel near the Champs-Élysées: explore Paris day and night

Merry times on the Champs-Élysées
When you’re in Paris, make sure you check out the capital’s iconic locations, including the must-see “most beautiful avenue in the world”. If you stay in one of our cheap hotels near the Champs-Élysées, all the joys of the French capital are yours to explore!
From the Arc de Triomphe to the Obelisk
This avenue, which links Place de la Concorde to Place de l’Etoile (or Place Charles-de-Gaulle as it’s sometimes known), is part of one of Paris’ most beautiful scenes stretching from the Louvre to La Défense. Because it has so many boutiques, restaurants, hip bars and top Paris nightspots such as Le Fouquet’s, Le Lido and Le Queen, people always flock to the Champs-Élysées day and night. But don’t just visit for the shopping and entertainment: it also has architectural marvels like the Grand Palais with its great glass roof and metal framework, which was built for the Exposition Universelle in 1900. Its hall is now a venue for temporary exhibitions and events, while its wings are the settings for the Galeries Nationales and Palais de la Découverte. The Petit Palais across the way dates from the same era and is home to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.
At 50m tall, the Arc de Triomphe stands proudly over Place de l’Etoile. It was built in 1806 at Napoleon’s request to celebrate his troops’ victory at Austerlitz. This solid edifice is decorated with sculptures by Cortot, Etex and Rude. It’s also famous for holding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. At 6.30pm every evening, a flame is relit in honour of soldiers killed during the First World War. You can climb to the top of the building. Once up there, you’ll get a 360° view of the French capital. The Arc is overlooked at the other end of the avenue by the Obelisk on the Place de la Concorde. King Louis-Philippe had this erected in 1836, but it’s now more than three millennia old: its original home was the Luxor Temple in Egypt.
