Wander the gorgeous Place de la Bourse and you’ll feel like you’re strolling through the courtyard of an immense classical palace. You won’t tire of admiring the refined façades which are delicately reflected in the mirror pool below. They become even more enchanting at nightfall when the square’s lights start to glow. This is the perfect time to take a romantic stroll through the old town. Place de la Bourse has other treasures such as the elegant Trois-Grâces fountain. The art and artefact collections in the Musée National des Douanes (located inside the Hôtel des Fermes du Roi) is also very worth a visit.

The Garonne River is an integral part of Bordeaux’s history. Boats travel up it onto the Port de la Lune beside the Place de la Bourse. Nowadays, the docks have moved downstream and the UNESCO World Heritage quays of the Port de la Lune are a wonderful place for strolling. If you’d prefer not to go too far from your cheap hotel on Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux, we recommend walking the Quai Richelieu. You’ll get a lovely view of the multi-coloured arches of the stone bridge. On the other bank, huge green spaces beckon you for riverside walks which can go on for several miles, starting at the Parc aux Angéliques. You can get to these parklands by tram in a matter of minutes.
