Basel, city of arts and art of living

Basel, green city
Renowned for its industrial, financial and economic activities, the city of Basel hosts many trade fairs at Basel Exhibition Centre, which boasts no fewer than six exhibition halls. Each year, the city welcomes Art Basel, the most important contemporary art fair in Europe and a key event in the world of art. On this occasion, the atmosphere in Basel buzzes with multiple events being organized throughout the city. Another highlight of the year, Baselworld is a fair dedicated to watchmaking and jewellery which also enjoys international acclaim. Every year there are thousands of visitors who come to Basel to participate in these demonstrations. Lovers of shopping and food will enjoy themselves around Basel Congress Centre. Stroll across town and admire the unique architectural heritage of Basel: the half-timbered houses stand alongside contemporary buildings designed by world-famous architects. On your way to the Rhine, stop at the Market Square to admire the Town Hall, a true jewel of red sandstone, which echoes to another city landmark: the Protestant Cathedral of Basel Minster with its red sandstone architecture and coloured roof tiles.
Stretched out along the banks of the Rhine, the city offers an oasis of greenery for walkers. In summer, hop aboard one of the traditional ferryboats to enjoy an agreeable river crossing and then, indulge yourself with a swim or sunbathing on the bank. Later, why not enjoy an impromptu picnic in one of the many parks or botanical gardens in the city? In winter, enjoy the cultural richness of the city, which hosts 40 museums!
