The three towers
Just metres from the ibis La Rochelle Vieux Port hotel is a town icon. The old port was first set up in the 13th century then fortified not long after. The building holding the grand clock marked the gateway from the port to the old city. Go through the gateway to get to La Rochelle’s ancient streets.
The Saint-Sauveur district
These three formidable guardians are symbols of La Rochelle. Saint-Nicolas, La Chaîne and La Lanterne towers played a defensive role from the 14th century onwards. La Lanterne was also a prison and lighthouse.
The town hall
The Saint-Sauveur district is famous for its colonnades and regal town houses. Head there to admire perfectly preserved timber façades. During your strolls through the charmingly medieval little streets, you’ll pass superb religious buildings such as Saint-Sauveur church and Les Dames Blanches chapel.
Maison Henri II
Not far from our three ibis hotels is the town hall, a remarkable collection of architectural creations. This historic site marries Gothic and Renaissance styles and is circled by a wall and wall walk. It’s made even more magnificent by its gargoyles and statues.
